Cerita Kehidupan Sehari-hari Penenun Sa’dan,Toraja, Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia
(Life stories of the weavers from Sa’dan, Toraja, South Sulawesi, Indonesia)
This book was published in 2014 as an ode to the weavers of Sa’dan, Toraja. Most books tend to showcase products, but not the makers. Therefore, via this book we have endeavoured to share the life stories of eleven weavers spanning three generations.
The weavers were part of the six groups which were trained by the TORAJAMELO team from 2008 – 2014. Some highlights of the book, include the stories of Ne’ Butung, a 100-year-old Master weaver talking about “mangkabi’ or hand-braiding technique with Yenny, her grand-daughter and also Feby, the youngest member of the weaving community, who decided to take up weaving in order to pay for her university fees.
This book was written for people who are interested in traditional crafts as well as connoisseurs of arts and crafts, collectors and researchers. It is written in Bahasa Indonesia and is available for sale at IDR 150,000 (USD12)/piece in the TORAJAMELO store in Jakarta.
